squish

I remember always playing with these at the drug store when I was little. They’d be sitting in a basket on the counter and I just couldn’t resist. It’s squishy! Who couldn’t resist? I didn’t actually know what it was meant for, but I liked picking out my favorite color of the time and occupying myself while my mother was done spending my dad’s money. She never noticed me pick one of these up; there were other things to look at.

Even when I got older, I still absent-mindedly would grab one while I was waiting at a counter. Actually, I still do. Not that I go shopping much anymore. But that’s when I finally realized what they were meant for. And at the time, I really didn’t need much stress relief, but as the years passed.. boy, did I wish I had twenty of them.

My best friend actually bought one for me a few years ago. Either for Christmas or my birthday. But it was a gift full of small, cute and/or useful things. One of which being this green squishy. And it seems even though I seriously needed to take advantage of its miraculous healing powers, I barely used it. If anything, if was fun to play with when the day was done. Then, it sat in a box for a while. Now, I’m not all that stressed. But it certainly does the trick for writer’s block!

sand

I remember playing in this sand box as a kid. The few times I was here. It’s one of my favorite pictures of myself as a youngster; in my overalls and bangs. I’m sure I thought this was fun, but now that I think back, it was rather moist. I don’t think it got much sun to dry out, and I’m sure it would suck up moisture from the ground. I never really saw many kids play in here, and if they did, their parents would be sure to clean them off.

It does look pretty disgusting to me now. I just walk around it. And it’s rare to see kids playing here at all now. They all have their video games and television. The outside world is for the poor peoples. I think I feel a bit of pity for this entire play ground. It’s not appreciated like it used to be. I’m worried the Township might finally decide to level it and replace it with some metal monstrosity. Those can be intriguing, but won’t have dangerously fun sand boxes. It’s the not knowing what could be buried under your fingers that creates the excitement!
